Description
Canadian country and folk songwriter Nick Ferrio started his musical career in punk rock in 2009, and as well as being a regular member of The Burning Hell (on bass) he has recorded under his own name, released a solo album ("Introducing His Feelings" 2012), as well as organizing local tural events and a folk festival in and around his hometown erborough, ON. He also lends his support to indigenous voices, sharing in the struggles to overcome colonialism and racism. His sophomore album Amongst the Coyotes and Birdsongs examines the ferociousness of love. It is a subtle, understated and confident collection of songs. Recorded with producer Gavin Gardiner (The Wooden Sky), the album features collaborations with Julie Doiron, Tamara Lindeman (The Weather Station), Steve Lambke (Constantines), Ian Kehoe (Marine Dreams) and Evening Hymns. The main recordings took place in an historic art deco theatre, the Vogue, still in function. They'd record by day, before the mo crowd turned up. "We'd have to get it done before the popcorn," Ferrio says. "It's this big, beautiful space - it gave us an amazing sound." Nick Ferrio "continues to be a forceful presence in Canadian folk music." -Exclaim! "He approaches the genre most successfully in his songwriting and instrumentals rather than twangy vocal delivery. He's an old-school crooner, conveying warmth through simple lines." - NOW Toronto
