In this book four chapters discuss empirical issues concerning apprenticeship training in the firm. Analyzed are the costs of recruiting apprentices, the training motives of the firms, the productive contributions of the apprentices and the influence of the firms' training investment on the wages of former apprentices. An introducing chapter presents the general framework, the basic theoretical and empirical literature and the datasets used for the analyses. The latter are the BIBB-Cost-Benefit-Survey 2007 and the first wave of the BIBB company panel on qualification and competence development.
