Playing under the name of Newton Heath, Manchester United Football Club were founded by a group of workers from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1878, and have gone on to become one of the best known football teams in the world. Here the history of the club is told in full, from their initial First Division title in 1908, and their first FA Cup victory in 1909, through to the triumphs and tragedies of the Matt Busby era, and Sir Alex Ferguson's incredibly successful managerial stint in the 1990s. Among the many players to wear the red shirt, some of the best known include Bobby Charlton, George Best, Dennis Law, Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand and David Beckham.
