Description
Recorded shortly before his death in 1988, this collaboration with soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy finds master musician/arranger Gil Evans turning in some of his finest, most subtle playing, mostly on Fender Rhodes electric piano. The choice of material favours Mingus, and one of the CD's highlights is a beautiful and darkly moody reworking of "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat". There is a profound chemistry between these two artists, and the music they create is both minimalist and lyrical. The sound recording is first-rate. Recorded 1987, Family Sound Studio, Paris Personnel: Gil Evans - piano, electric piano, Steve Lacy - soprano saxophone.
