W 2002 roku zdobyl amerykanska nagrode Society for News Design za serie Demokratyczna Republika Kongo, a w 2009 uzyskal norweski tytul Freelancer of the Year. Serie fotograficzne Rune Erakera sa mocno osadzone w estetyce klasycznych europejskich reportazy. Jego prace publikowane byly w wielu magazynach na calym swiecie.
