Suite Espanola op.47 (Septett-Fass.)/SE

0 - Default Title
Description
A septet consists of any combination of seven instruments: There are compositions for strings alone, mixtures of strings and wind instruments with a piano or harp, and others with a wind trio together with a string quartet, whereby the quartet has no second violin and the bass is strengthened by the inclusion of a double bass. This last instrumentation was used by Ludwig van Beethoven in his Septet op.20 and has been often taken up by other composers since. Isaac Abbniz was not one of them. His Suite espaola was composed for the piano, and the cellist of the Ensemble Mediterrain, Bruno Borralhinho arranged it for the Beethoven septet instrumentation. Both septets do not only have in common a similar intention, which one could describe as refinement and which will be examined later, they are also both very popular and have been frequently adapted.
