George Orwell (Eric Arthur Blair, 1903-1950) was an English author and journalist was known for his awareness of social injustice and opposition to totalitarianism. His two best known works are the dystopian novel 1984 and the satirical novella Animal Farm. By April 1944 Animal Farm was ready for publication, but publishers considered it an attack on the Soviet regime -- a crucial ally in the war. I was finally published in August 1945.
