The anthology documents the specialist workshop of the working group vocational education research network (AG BFN). On the one hand, this was about the current status of scientific research; on the other hand, this was about open questions regarding assessment and certification within professional training. The authors' aim is to develop a uniform understanding, to highlight the potentials and limitations of modern assessment methods and to formulate reform targets. It was explored, how assessments and certifications can represent the professional capacity to act and how they can be made socially utilisable. An important focus thereby lay with the acknowledgement of competences and the comparability on the European level.
