When they started out, the Durannies were part of the New Romantic movement in the U.K. alongside bands like Spandau Ballet, Visage and Classix Nouveaux, playing gigs in small UK clubs. They successfully blended the smooth coolness of Bowie with the funky dance rhythms of Chic and created the Duran Duran sound. Within a year, they were teen idols playing arenas across the world.
