The idea of Deep Ecology was proposed and developed by the Norwegian ecophilosopher Arne Naess in 1972-1991. The main work of Naess, which brought him international fame, -Ecology, community and life-style¿, was published in 1989. His ecosophy T is most accurately characterized by the following thesis: the satisfaction derived from the things that lead to the destruction of nature, is a passive i.e. possession of material values which are harmful for the environment can not be considered as happiness.
