Showdown-Battle of the Bands

0 - Default Title
Description
In its day swing was the hippest and newest sound around. RCA's "Battle of the Bands" attempts to recreate the freshness of 1930s-40s big band music, echoing the battle of the bands from the era when one would take on each other in a battle for the audience's approval. Here the bill is 18 tracks where two giants of the scene, indeed of music in general, Count Basie and Duke Ellington are pitched against each other, with each appearing on alternative tracks. The blows thrown include the energy and power of Basie's "One O'Oclock Boogie", "Bill's Hill" and "Seventh Avenue Express" against Ellington's more emotive "Just Squeeze Me (But Don't Tease Me)", "Take the 'A' Train" and "C Jam Blues". The winner by a clear knock out is the listener. Others in the "Battle" series are Artie Shaw vs Benny Goodman and Glen Miller vs Tommy Dorsey. --Phil Brett
