When properly constructed & adjusted splint provide a good method of eliminating occlusal interferences, reducing neuromuscular activity, and obtaining stable occlusal relationships with uniform tooth contacts throughout the dental arch. Stents hold together the segments of fractures, skin grafts, protects the healthy tissue while administering radiotherapy, and helps to control haemorrhage. The word 'Splint' has its origin from the Dutch word 'splints' that means 'a metal plate or pin'.
