Description
Diary Of A Mad Band is the long-awaited live DVD/2xCD set from the New Orleans hard rock quintet Down. News of this release has been known for some time, the set having been initially slated for release in March 2010. Diary Of A Mad Band is the first Down release for three years since the 2007 album, Over The Under, and documents the band’s first ever European tour back in 2006. Down were conceived in 1995 as a side-project for a rolecall of heavy metal superstars, primarily revolving around Phil Anselmo (Pantera) and Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity), with the full band being made up of members from Crowbar and Eyehategod. The band have produced three acclaimed albums of their own unmistakable brand of heavy/stoner/groove metal and have gone on to sell over 65,000 records in the UK. With the demise of Pantera and the death of Dimebag Darrell, such is the following of Phil Anselmo that any release from Down is greeted with fervent interest from hard rock and metal fans. The main feature of this DVD set is a warts-and-all 2-hour documentary that follows the band members “tearing up Europe” literally and figuratively. The documentary is intercut with full live tracks, the tracklisting selected exclusively from the band’s first two albums, the hard rock modern classic NOLA and the follow-up Down II, that were filmed in various cities along the tour, including London, Paris and Hamburg, climaxing with their final stop on the tour; the opening slot on the Main Stage at Download Festival. The set also comes with accompanying CDs that feature a 16-track previously unreleased concert that was recorded at the legendary London Astoria on 30th May 2006, over 100 minutes of additional audio content
