ABOUT THIS BOOK
MOUNTAIN ECSTASY is a unique collage-experience. The images were gathered together from all parts of the world and many different cultures. A very high degree selectivity was used. We have of course drawn from the inspired work of numerous travellers, artists, photographers, models and other individuals, transforming their of visions in our own way. Such is the method of collage. This book is dedicated to all those who knowingly or unknowingly have helped or participated in this project. We would like to point out that no work of photographic collage is possible without availability of source-material.
Collage is an art-form particularly suitable for the twentieth century. It has been known previously, especially in the East. The original Surrealists, such as Max Ernst, used collage to shock as well as to transform. Towards the end of his life the great painter Matisse declared, "Scissors can achieve more sensitivity than the pencil We believe that collage is one of the most direct methods of processing media and is a potent tool in any journey of self-discovery through Art.
Photographic collage is an entry into a magical reality. A photograph is a "frozen moment," an "instant of time!" By combining different moments of photography becomes possible to create a new order of dimension, a unique time-space continuum. Many primitive people believe that a photograph can in some way "capture" a part of eir very essence. Science has shown that a state of resonance can exist between a thing being and its exact image. Such is the potential magic of photographic collage.
JUNTAIN ECSTASY was completed over a period of two and a half years. We made by journeys, to East and West, and spent many late nights in the sorting, cutting, ecting, placing and pasting of the images. We hope that you have enjoyed the journey.
