Description
George Frideric Handels opera Admeto was composed for the Royal Academy of Music. The work, with Italian libretto by Nicola Hyam, premiered in 1727. The work is partly based on Euripides Alcestis. For this production, Oscar nominated film director Doris Dorrie creates vivid scenery and brilliant sets to immerse the viewer in the ritualized world of the samurai. Handel would have enjoyed this enchanting shadow theater. (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) Its brilliantly played by the period-instrument FestspielOrchester Gottingen, conducted with fine sensibility and sensuality by Nicolas McGegan. (The Times)
