Description
This was the second recording project for Candid by Greek saxophonist Dimitri Vassilakis which finds him drawing inspiration from Greek myths, evoking ancient Greek ideals and philosophy: freedom quest, symmetry, clarity of thought, conversation. Also on later Greece and the Balkans: ritual elements, intensity, regional rhythms and sounds. Recorded in New York produced by David Liebman with Ralph Peterson, Marc Johnson, Andy Sheppard, Theodosii Spassov and more. Album of the month for BBC music magazine (March 2002) and was voted 2nd jazz album of the year 2002 at the BBC Internet poll. "Infinite grace poetry and passion...Dimitri Vassilakis is revered as the Hellenic God of post-modern expression. A rhapsodic stylist of immense power and authority." - BBC Music Magazine
