The following chapters initially cover a series of topics important for a knowledge of painting before step-by-step procedures to obtain a completed oil or acrylic painting for any subject matter. After a drawing is transferred to the canvas, one starts with a value-based underpainting on which layers of color are built-up. A limited palette is stressed here, but the artist can use other colors that are listed to make the transition to color mixing from just primaries as more confidence is gained.
