E n g l i s c h In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there are more than 600 known species of spiders. Although they are a critical link in the food chain - as natural predators to insects - and have a decisive influence on the ecological state of our landscapes, little is known about their distribution, ecology, and population trends. This book aims to present the spider fauna of Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania to nature lovers, landscape planners, officials, and arachnologists alike and to discuss the current state of eco-faunistic knowledge as a basis for nature conservation and landscape use as well as further research. For this purpose, more than 51,000 data sets from almost 50 years of spider research in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were analyzed providing information on the biology and ecology of the species, their distribution, and their endangerment status. Numerous images, contributed by first-class nature photographers, complete the work and show the beauty and diversity of the native spider species. This first volume deals with the majority of the total of 21 spider families, while the second volume is reserved for the species-rich orb-weaver, long-jawed orb weaver, sheet-web weaver, and cobweb spiders
