nous plonge au cœur du XV^e siècle et nous invite à découvrir l'étonnante histoire du prince ottoman Djem Sultan (Zizim pour les chrétiens).
Fils du conquérant de Constantinople Mehmet II, il devient dans la succession au trône ottoman le rival malheureux de son propre frère Bajazet Il. Venu chercher asile et protection sur l'île de Rhodes en 1482, auprès des Chevaliers hospitaliers, Djem Sultan devient un instrument de chantage politique et religieux, à l'instigation du grand maître de l'ordre, Pierre d'Aubusson. Le prince est ainsi détenu en otage jusqu'à sa mort près de Naples en 1494. Le récit se concentre particulièrement sur la période de détention du prince turc avec un éclairage nouveau sur la période limousine de sa captivité (1484-1488). Le périple de Djem Sultan en Limousin est l'occasion pour l'auteur, Didier Delhoume, d'évoquer la présence de l'ordre des Hospitaliers en Creuse et de révéler les lieux traversés par le prince turc et sa suite, au premier range desquels la ville de Bourganeuf, sa commanderie et sa célèbre tour Zizim.

places us in the fifteenth century and invites us to discover the amazing story of Djem Sultan (Zizim for the Christians). The son of Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople, he became the unfortunate challenger to his own brother to the Ottoman throne. Having come to the island of Rhodes in 1482 to seek protection through the provision of sanctuary by the Knights Hospitallers, Djem Sultan was a pawn caught in a religious and political blackmail masterminded by Pierre d'Aubusson, Grand Master of the Order. Thus the prince was held as a hostage until his death in Naples in 1494.
Our account focuses on the period of his captivity in Limousin from 1484 to 1488. The drift of Djem Sultan in Limousin enables Didier Delhoume, the writer, to present the Order of the Hospitallers in Creuse and to make the places crossed by the Ottoman prince and his retinue vividly come to life. This applies, first and foremost to Bourganeuf - the town and its commandery - and its famous Zizim Tower.
