Description
The year 1939 went down in history as the iconic year of what has come to be known as the golden age of Hollywood. It was, in fact, the year of The Wizard of Oz, Ninotchka, Gone with the Wind, Stagecoach, and other absolute classics. A year like this cannot really be seen as just any year, and two films made in that iconic year will be analyzed in the following pages. However, my goal is to analyze a series of films made in Hollywood in the 1930s, so that it may become easier to understand the path that led to that glorious year. It is this path that I intend to analyze, based on the approach of a few dozen films made in Hollywood in the 1930s. I will analyze some famous films that have become mythical and generated a whole mythology. But I will also work on some films that are now almost or entirely forgotten. I will study some masterpieces, but I will not leave out some mediocre films. These films, after all, also help to clarify the path in question.
