Description
MILES DAVIS - BROADCAST SESSIONS 1958-59 - Throughout a professional career lasting 50 years, Miles Davis played the trumpet in a lyrical, introspective, and melodic style, often employing a stemless Harmon mute to make his sound more personal and intimate. To examine his career is to examine the history of jazz from the mid-'40s to the early '90s, since he was in the thick of almost every important innovation and stylistic development in the music during that period. It can even be argued that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn't there to push it forward. This is a major find for fans of the legendary MILESTONES LP. These recordings, some of them made only 6 weeks after completing the Milestones sessions, feature the complete or near complete Milestones Sextet, with live renditions of such key Milestones cuts as "Sid's Ahead", "Straight No Chaser" or "Two Bass Hit". These unique sessions were recorded at 4 separate 'live' performances at New York clubs for radio and TV broadcasts in 1958-59. This 70-minute CD is an essential collector's item with announcer intro included, and extended tracks that feature Davis with his re-formed quintet/sextet with a stellar line-up featuring John Coltrane (tenor sax), Cannonball Adderley (alto sax). Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Philly Joe Jones (drums). ----- 1. Four (Miles Davis) 5:02 - 2. Bye Bye Blackbird (May 17,1958) (Ray Henderson, Mort Dixon) 6:53 - 3.
