When Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves to a new neighbourhood with his mum and stepfather, his first priority is to make friends and learn to play baseball. A local team needs an extra player but when Scotty tries to impress them with his baseball skills he is laughed off the sandlot. Luckily, the teams best player, Benny Rodriguez (Mike Vitar), takes Scotty under his wing and teaches him the basics. So follows a long idyllic summer of adventures and fun involving baseball, treehouse sleep-ins, a snooty rival Little League team and an attractive lifeguard at the local pool. The fun is interrupted when Scotty hits his stepfathers autographed Babe Ruth baseball over the fence at the back of the sandlot and straight into the lair of The Beast, a snarling canine from hell. Using various home-made devices, the team attempt to retrieve the ball before Scottys stepfather finds out what has happened!
