The success story of the South African music scene of the recent past took its starting point in 2006 with the debut album "Zandisile", which was not only awarded two South African Music Awards (including "Newcomer Of The Year"), but also the way for an unprecedented triumphal procession and acclaimed concerts through metropolises of Berlin. and Barcelona over London and Rome to Madrid and Hamburg leveled. Many important world music and jazz festivals of the continent invited the Shooting Star with the same inspiring result. High placements in the European World Music Charts and Jazz Charts e.g. in Germany were the pleasing results. But it was above all the magical stage presence of the Johannesburg-based singer that tore audiences to storms of enthusiasm, her unique blend of African roots, pop, soul, gospel and even hip hop was nothing less than the most independent sound exported for many years from the southern tip of Africa. The message from a young, confident South Africa with the finger pointing to the countless problems yet to be solved was addressed by a proud, thoughtful, beautiful woman who raised her voice as an ambassador of the current South African generation of musicians. With her second album, "The One Love Movement On Bantu Biko Street," Simphiwe Dana continues this path taken: own compositions on topics such as politics and family in standalone sounds that feed from the intersection of South African roots and contemporary pop and jazz particles. The songs consistently performed in their language Xhosa are also provided with English translations this time in the booklet, so that it does not remain hidden that one or the other very personal love song occurs in the repertoire.
