Early Intervention and Prevention in Family Policy: Family Support Initiatives in the Uk from New Labour Onwards
0 - Default Title
Description
With its origins under the ‘New’ Labour governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, preventative and early intervention policy has subsequently been introduced more and more in response to economic and social shifts and changing family structures in the UK. This book presents an overview of the context to the emergence of the preventative and early intervention agenda within family policy.
With a particular focus on the Parenting Early Intervention Programme (2006-2011) and the CANparent Trial (2012-2014), the book draws on original research to examine contrasting attempts by the UK government to introduce parenting support during the last ten years. It also scrutinises current initiatives, such as the Big Lottery funded ‘Fulfilling Lives: A Better Start’ and the Early Intervention Foundation, and raises questions as to the success and future of the early intervention and preventative policy approach.
Providing a unique blend of research alongside policy ysis.it will be of interest to those involved with social policy, family policy, parenting support, education and Early Years work. It also presents the development of an important strand of social and family policy from ‘New’ Labour to the current Conservative government as well as considering what this means for UK family policy in future. .
