Another episode from the TV adaptation of C.S. Hornblower's maritime novels. Seaman Horatio Hornblower (Ioan Gruffudd), aboard the Indefatigable at the height of the 18th century Anglo-French war, is encouraged by his captain, Pellew (Robert Lindsay), to take his lieutenant's exams. As Spain joins forces with the French against the English fleet, Hornblower is given the stiffest test of his mettle - to keep control of his crew whilst they are subjected to severe rationing and quarantined due to a deadly plague.
