Description
The Cottars are a stunningly talented group of four young Celtic musicians from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Brother/sister pairs Cairan & Fiona MacGillivray and Jimmy & Roseanne MacKenzie have all been playing traditional folk and Celtic music since their early childhood. Ranging in age from 15 to 18, each of the foursome is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and stepdancer. Between them they play fiddle, whistles, piano, guitars, bodhrans, banjo and harp. Masters of lively traditional music, The Cottars have a flair for innovation and experimentation, and have been heralded by The Boston Globe as one of the hottest acts in the folk world today. Already having produced two critically-acclaimed, self-released albums, this is their debut for Rounder Records. The result is a thrilling glimpse into the future of both Cape Breton folk music and an exciting new sound a sound assembled by The Cottars from fragments of the tradition, artful songwriting and the bands instrumental and vocal virtuosity. Tracks: Waterlily / Miss Casey Medley / Byker Hill / Atlantic Blue / Some Polkas / Pat Works On The Railway / Georgia Lee / Sliabh Na Mban / Home By Bearna / Send Me A River / The Honeysuckle Medley / Hold On.
