This study aims to examine the Brazilian economy's model of development and international affirmation, based on the expansion of natural resource exports. It seeks to assess the contribution of the recent cycle of rising commodity prices in Brazil to the increase in exports, and to what extent this was accompanied by currency appreciation and a loss of competitiveness and export capacity in other sectors in which Brazil had been asserting itself. A Shift-Share analysis is performed on Brazilian exports in the period 2000-2012, with the aim of identifying the variables that contributed to the country's international trade gains and their implications for the future.
