Karen Parker lost her husband to cancer. His death came fast and threw Karen into a dark place. After paying their medical bills and farm debts, Karen sold their Kansas farm and move to Cleveland with her boys, Paul and Tommy. There she hopes to rebuild her career as a journalist, which is the only vocation she knows beyond being a wife and mother. All Karen wants is a fresh start. Simple as that. That didn't seem like too much to ask. She does not want a fight. She only wants a life. And a life for her boys. She is not a national security threat. Neither are her boys. Then during a childish game in unfamiliar surroundings Tommy and Paul are attacked. A mysterious man saves them from a drug dealer. Tommy then vanishes with this same man. Tommy's disappearance thrusts Karen into a desperate search, pitting her against nature, time, and killers. Karen is not the only person searching for Tommy, but she is the only one who wants to find him alive.
