PROTESTANTISME(S) ET AUTORITÉ

Ce numéro spécial s'intéresse aux manières dont les différentes tendances issues de la Réforme Protestante ont théorisé la notion d'autorité : autorité divine en tant qu'elle s'exprime à travers la Bible, relations complexes entre l'autorité divine et autorités politiques ou ecclésiastiques établies (notamment redéfinition dans ce contexte de l'autorité « romaine », des rapports entre autorité spirituelle et autorité temporelle et, par voie de conséquence, des rapports entre Églises et États). Les auteurs des articles, spécialistes de champs disciplinaires très divers (civilisation, histoire, littérature, philosophie, théologie) étudient également la façon dont ces théories ont été concrètement appliquées dans les diverses Églises protestantes, en fonction de l'histoire propre des régions et pays d'Europe d'abord, puis dans d'autres parties du monde où les protestantismes se sont répandus au fil des siècles. Enfin les modalités selon lesquelles les théories et pratiques protestantes ont affecté l'évolution de l'art, de la littérature et de la pensée philosophique et scientifique retiennent aussi leur attention.

PROTESTANTISM AND AUTHORITY

This special issue focuses on the various ways in which the different branches generated by the Protestant Reformation have theorized the notion of authority : divine authority as it is expressed through the Bible, complex interaction between divine authority and political or church establishment (especially redefinition in this respect of the « Roman authority, » of the links between spiritual and temporal authority, and thereby of the relationship between Churches and States). The writers of these papers are specialized in diverse academic subjects (cultural studies, history, literature, philosophy, theology) and are therefore also interested in the way in which such theories have been concretely applied first to the European countries and regions, and subsequently to other parts of the world where protestantism spread over the centuries. Finally they also consider how they may have affected the development of art, literature and philosophical or scientific thought.
