Colin Steele's album "The Journey Home" won the Best Album category in the BBC Jazz Awards for 2003, as well as winning plaudits in all of the major end-of-year polls. This is the long-awaited follow up album which Colin recorded for the ACT label in late 2004. Once again taking as its template the idea of fusing jazz composition and improation with traditional Scottish melodies, Steele's trum playing references many of the masters - Kenny Wheeler springing to mind immediately - but it has a voice all of its own. The compositions reflect Colin's heritage, growing up around the folk melodies of Scotland while learning about jazz. The result is an album that is more fully formed than its predecessor, incorporating all the elements together to make something truly special. Musicians in the band for this record are drawn from the same fertile Scottish scene as the leader, the standard of musicianship uniformly high. Features Michael Buckley (saxes), Dave Milligan (piano), Aidan O'Donnell (bass) and Stu Ritchie (drums).
