Aspiring chef Stella James (Sean Young) enjoys a healthy appetite - and not just for food. When her wealthy but alcoholic partner can no longer satisfy her sexually, Stella leaves New York for Los Angeles in search of one night stands. Her first paramour is unhappily married restaurant owner George (John Heard), with whom Stella rapidly begins an affair. However, it isn't long before she has turned her attentions to photographer Frank (Richard Hillman), but when their lust-fuelled relationship begins to turn into something more significant, Stella experiences her first ever pangs of jealousy.
