We identified prediction as the mainstay of supervised learning, and further noted that when the outcome of prediction is a categorical variable, classification obtains, otherwise what we have is regression, meaning that the prediction outcome is a continuous variable.A distinguishing aspect of this work is our ability to show both mathematically with a proof, and practically with some real-world datasets, that regression tools can be used as veritable tools for classification.
