Aggro? Or what? Christian Segmehl and Ingo Dannhorn play music for saxophone and piano from three centuries. Do you only get one CD full of good pieces for saxophone and piano? But hello! And if you are called Christian Segmehl then three times. Christian Segmehl is one of the best classic saxophonists in Germany. Christian Segmehl was born in Biberach an der Ritt in 1977. After graduation, he studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and then at the Amsterdam Music College (at Arno Bornkamp), where he also completed his concert diploma. Today, Segmehl regularly plays with large orchestras, e.g. with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the symphony orchestra of the Bavarian radio or the Berlin Philharmonics, but also devotes itself to chamber music in different occupations. His repertoire covers the entire range of saxophone music and ranges from the romance of the 19th century. century on the classic modernity of the 20th century up to the very latest works of contemporary composers. On this CD Christian Segmehl spans a wide bow together with his congenial piano partner, Ingo Dannhorn. The two start with a piece of a certain Jules Demersseman (1833-1866) that hardly anyone else knows. This is a pity, because this Belgian, who studied in Paris, was one of the largest flute virtuosos of the 19th century. century. The variations presented here could just as well come from Giacomo Rossini. The piece has everything that distinguishes the compositions of Rossini: beautiful melodies, virtuous runs, jumps and passages and a firm formal structure. In this harmonious idyll, Erwin Schulhoff bursts with his hot sonate from 1930. This is a fresh blend of classic European sentence technique and a bluish chicago jazz, which is also known from Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue. The listener is amazed how skilfully Schulhoff, which comes from Prague, was never in the USA and knew the jazz only from grammophone plates, meets the language of the jazz
