This book addresses the processes of the drastically diminishing reproductive power of the Protestant Church in Germany. It is not only becoming smaller, but also more insignificant. This affects its financing, its charisma, the 'resilience' of its activities, the motivation of its staff - all in all its plausibility in society. This study focuses on church services, music, religious education and confirmation classes, family socialisation, youth work, diaconia, pastors and volunteers as well as other issues and develops theoretical perspectives on the interplay between faith and church on an empirical basis. On the one hand, a loss of vitality overall becomes clear, but so do opportunities in concrete terms.
