WHATEVER IT TAKES
0 - Default Title
Description
In WHATEVER IT TAKES, the ordinary people are retired entrepreneur, Dale Hunter, and his longtime friend and business associate, James McKenzie; the difficult situation is the threats of death and destruction from dangerous gangster bosses who are manipulating civic officials in schemes of corruption at city hall; and there are more than a few moral dilemmas to be resolved. Can McKenzie be trusted or not? Is he an innocent victim being threatened by the criminals, or is he involved in the crimes himself, and possibly even a murderer?
Dale has been haunted since his youth by a tragic family history and the violent death of his father. Is he also guilty of a murder, or was it an accident? In the search for truth, Hunter is driven into deep introspection, his ethical and moral values are tested, and more family secrets are revealed. This story takes place thirty years after Dale Hunter and his crime fighting buddy, Frank the Fixer, were introduced in the first novel in the series, NO EASY MONEY. Hunter was a young entrepreneur in the international computer business of the 1980s and Frank was a tough young refugee from Somalia working the streets between the gangsters and the police in Montreal. Together over the years, they have fought crime and corruption in Montreal, Korea and Taiwan, Boston, New York and Las Vegas and saved themselves and others from the protection racket, schemes of money laundering, loan sharking, and sex trafficking, and survived kidnapping and murder attempts.
In WHATEVER IT TAKES, Dale Hunter is shocked to discover that his longtime friend and mentor, James McKenzie, is more ruthless, greedy and ambitious than he ever knew, probably crooked, and possibly a murderer. Nevertheless, Hunter is persuaded to help extricate his friend from the dirty deals he's made with the dangerous gangsters manipulating local politicians for profit in major construction projects. Instead of running for cover, Hunter gets drawn deeper into the lethal conspiracies and risks suffering the same dire consequences as McKenzie.
