Arqueología de Género en Galicia
0 - Default Title
Description
This work constitutes one of the first approaches to gender archaeology applied to the early medieval context of the Iberian Peninsula. Through an archaeological reading of the transition from the Roman world to the Early Middle Ages, it analyses social transformations between the 4th and 6th centuries AD from a feminist perspective focused on rural societies, everyday life, and maintenance activities. In contrast to narratives centred on elites and military conflict, this study foregrounds the material experiences of peasant communities and historically marginalised subjects. The approach adopted-based on the study of daily life through the archaeology of the body and domestic space-proposes a more inclusive (re)interpretation of historical change during this period. The analysis is structured around three Galician sites-Santomé, O Castelo, and A Lanzada-whose recent excavations provide new insights into gender, rurality, and processes of historical transformation through material culture.
