Two interweaving family stories begin shortly after the Great Depression. George, a British Civil Servant, and Stavros, a ‘native’ clerk for the British administration, form a friendship in 1930s Cyprus. Their families, neighbours and acquaintances become intertwined in unrest between Greek-speaking, Turkish-speaking and British inhabitants of Cyprus. Events cast a divisive shadow over a once-peaceful island. The story continues in Greece where the finale is set in modern-day Athens against the backdrop of austerity and the refugee crisis.
