Sculpteur est un métier solitaire et c'est sans doute pour cela que l'artiste allemand Bernd Lohaus (1940-2010) se livre volontiers, parce qu'il sait qu'il faut dire ce qui s'est passé dans l'atelier, le hangar, où ses seuls interlocuteurs - muets, s'entend - sont les blocs de bois amassés et disposés dans un certain ordre, peut-être aléatoire, mais groupés comme une assemblée en face de laquelle se trouve le sculpteur. Ces blocs sont chargés d'un passé qu'ils révèlent peu à peu, d'une histoire qu'ils dévoilent partiellement par des traces affleurant à leur surface...
Sculpture is a solitary occupation, which is probably why the German artist Bernd Lohaus (1940-2010) readily devotes himself to it, for he knows that it has to speak of what has happened in the studio and the hangar, where his only interlocutors - mutes, of course - are the blocks of wood that have been amassed and placed in a certain order, perhaps at random, but grouped like a meeting, in front of which the sculptor finds himself. These blocks are imbibed with a past which they gradually reveal, a history which they partially unveil through the traces that break their surfaces...
