One of Atlantic Records most successful recording artists of the 50's, Ruth Brown introduced a whole new sound & style to Rhythm & Blues, opting initially for a more polished (and ultimately more Pop-orientated) ballad style than her peers. Atlantic discovered her in the mid-40's but on the way to her first recording session she had a car accident and did not record until 1949. Rewarded with a hit first time out she became a regular on both R&B and Pop charts throughout the 50's and 60's. This collection concentrates on Ruth's early works between 1949 and 1953 of the tracks here 9 of them made the charts and three went to number 1.
