Description
Broken Hands are proud to announce the release of their long-awaited debut album Turbulence, on 9th October via So Recordings. A truly ambitious and bold statement of intent, Turbulence has by no means come easily to the psychedelic journeymen, whose approach to their craft is almost unrecognisable to how it was in the very early days. Canterbury’s Broken Hands formed half a decade ago while teenagers and quickly gained notoriety with their unmissable live performances and acid-tinged, riff heavy rock and by 2014, Broken Hands had achieved more than most bands ever will. Despite sharing stages with heroes including Black Sabbath and The Rolling Stones, amassing a loyal fan base and playing shows across the globe, it wasn’t enough and singer Dale Norton felt uncertain of the direction of the band and the music they were making. But then: an epiphany - in Gatwick airport of all places. I was hearing the jet engines soaring into the sky from Gatwick's runways,” says singer Norton. “They sounded just like fuzzed-out guitar feedback and festival sound drums crashing. Then came more images: planes taking off and people coming up. Turbulence and Paranoia. Engines charging and pupils dilating...” The boundless excitement and possibility in travel, flight and exploration gave Dale a new focus and drive to create something truly unique, inspired and limitless. Turbulence was born. Produced by Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Band Of Skulls, Killing Joke), Turbulence recalls superfuzz melodic rush of Queens Of The Stone Age or perhaps The Verve at their early, wigged-out best. Title track ‘Turbulence’ offers a dark rough-and-tumble rumble of riffs while ‘Impact’ captures epic climes that other bands can only dream of. Current single, the blazing ‘Meteor’ hints at what Black Sabbath might have sounded like had they been produced by Joe Meek.
