They use humor to show the attitudes and character of the working and trading people. Hobson's Choice is a four-act comedy. Willie Mossop was a talented shoemaker. Henry Horatio Hobson was his boss. Willlie was persuaded to marry the almost spinster daughter of Hodson. Maggie is a talented salesperson and Willie a gifted shoemaker. In less than a year they were so successful that they took many of Hobson's clients. Willie attempts to help the alcoholic Hodson by letting him be his partner...silent partner that is.
