Description
This paper compares two instruments for measuring the helping and supporting behaviour of members of a (work) team in order to answer the question of the differences between the operationalisations. To this end, the two types of operationalisation were compared in terms of their measurement quality criteria and their correlations with the constructs of performance and withdrawal behaviour. The focus is on the helping and supporting behaviour of individual team members, the construct of team citizenship behaviour (TCB). This plays a key role in the successful completion of a task and in improving team performance (Podsakoff, Whiting, Podsakoff & Blume, 2009). Improved measurement criteria are assumed for the relative scale, so greater homogeneity within teams is expected for the assessment of TCB using the relative scale. Furthermore, greater correlations between TCB and performance or withdrawal behaviour are also expected for the operationalisation of TCB using the relative scale. However, a sufficiently large sample is required to test these hypotheses.
