Die Literatur Christa Wolfs hat Folgen. Von Beginn an polarisierte jeder ihrer Prosatexte die Leser_innenschaft, egal ob "Nachdenken über Christa T." (1968), "Kindheitsmuster" (1976), "Kein Ort. Nirgends" (1979), "Kassandra" (1983), "Medea. Stimmen" (1996) oder der letzte Roman "Stadt der Engel" (2010). Die Mehrheit ihrer Bücher erschien in Ost und West zugleich, wurde jedoch in beiden Deutschlands unterschiedlich gelesen. Das Porträt zeigt, wie Krieg und Flucht als biographische Schlüsselerfahrung das Selbstverständnis der 1929 in Landsberg an der Warthe geborenen Autorin bestimmen und ihren ästhetischen Ausdruck in einer ‚Poetik der Schuld‘ finden. Hat die frühe protestantische Erziehung einen Anteil daran? Gefragt wird nicht nur nach dem expliziten Beitrag einer Schriftstellerin zum deutsch-deutschen Humanismus-Diskurs, sondern vor allem danach, auf welche Weise humanistische Werte die literarische Form ihrer Prosa und Essayistik über fünf Jahrzehnte hin prägen. Wie funktionierte eine auf individuelle wie gesellschaftliche Verantwortung zielende Poetik der „subjektiven Authentizität“ innerhalb des DDR-Sozialismus? Trägt ein solches Konzept nach 1989?
