Diane Birch - Speak A Little Louder

0 - Default Title
Description
Following the release of her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Bible Belt’, Diane Birch returns with a striking evolution of her sound on her second collection Speak A Little Louder which will be released through S-Curve Records. The album combines driving, danceable tracks alongside more sombre, reflective ruminations on loss and strength set to fuller and increasingly diverse productions which touch upon elements of Phil Collins, Peter Murphy, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson. The influence of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks also permeates the album, notably with the single ‘Love and War’. "My favourite albums, and the ones that resonate with me the most, are those where the craftsmanship and integrity of the songwriting is incomparable, but they also take you someplace sonically where you can really lose yourself,"" says Birch. “I wanted to make a record that unifies the wide spectrum of my influences, and to pull it all together in a way that sheds light on who I am as an artist; and make something that really feels like my own voice." Highlights of the album include ‘Tell Me Tomorrow’, which addresses the end of a long-term relationship with an exhilarating rush of defiance and regret. ‘Lighthouse’ is an anthemic ode to inner-strength and resilience in the face of darkness, while ‘Pretty in Pain’, co-written with Betty Wright, channels the powerful female singers Birch had grown even more inspired by over the past five years, from Tina Turner and Donna Summer to Annie Lennox and Kate Bush. ‘It Plays On’, the final track written for the record, pays tribute to her late father and his enduring inspiration on her music. Primarily produced by Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss in his Brooklyn studio, the album also features collaborations with Eg White (Florence and the Machine, Adele), Steve Greenberg (Joss Stone), Matt Hales (Aqualung, Lianne La Havas) and Questlove of The Roots.
