The Art Of Four Jazz

The Art Of Four

- Default Title
Description
Best-known as one of the world's leading fusion drummers, Billy Cobham is equally at home playing acoustic jazz, in small groups or even with a big band. In the 1990s Cobham revived his solo career with his fusion outfit "ture Mix" and, more recently, he has been undertaking a whole series of acoustic projects. Following in the footsteps of the "Art of Three" a trio with Kenny Barron and Ron Carter and "The Art Of Five", a quintet featuring Guy Barker and Julian Joseph, comes "The Art Of Four". The quartet's line-up features piano player James Williams as well as regular Cobham companions Ron Carter on bass and Donald Harrison on alto sax. They sound as though they have been playing together for an eternity, while keeping their fresh and youthful mood. Six of the nine pieces are studio recordings, with the addition of 'If I Were A Bell', 'The Song Is You' and 'Cissy Strut', electrifying live recordings from the Montreux Jazz Festival. The latter track features a gospel-infused piano by James Williams who sadly died of cancer in 2004 and to whom Cobham dedicates this recording. Personnel: Billy Cobham - drums, James Williams - piano, Ron Carter - bass, Donald Harrison - alto saxophone.
