The Art of Five

0 - Default Title
Description
Master drummer Billy Cobham is best known as the powerhouse drummer who played with Miles Da and The Mahahnu Orchestra and whose first three recordings for Atlantic in the early 1970's are acknowledged fusion classics. However, prior to this, he actually made his name performing in the strictly acoustic environment of The Horace Silver Quintet, including a memorable stint at Ronnie Scott's. "Art of Five" is the drummer's triumphant return to "straightahead" jazz and features outstanding musicians from the U.S.A. and U.K. performing seven originals and one standard tune. Largely avoiding the musar approach that made his name, this outstanding recording reveals what a subtle - and swinging - percussionist Billy Cobham actually is. Personnel: Billy Cobham - drums, Guy Barker - trum, Donald Harrison - alto saxophone, Eric Reed - piano, Julian Joseph - piano (3,7), Orlando Le Flemming - bass, Robert Hurst - bass (3,7)
