The piano, Franz Liszt wrote in one of his"Reisebriefe" to the Swiss scholar Adolphe de Pictet in 1837, "occupies first place in the hierarchy of instruments in my opinion." Franz Liszt was the only great virtuoso of his time who was always more than a great virtuoso - to quote Heine, "not a pianist for peaceful citizens." Pianist on this recording is Cyprien Katsaris.
