Ma la comunità resta pervicacemente assente, ci sfugge costantemente di mano o continua a disintegrarsi, perché la direzione in cui questo mondo ci sospinge nel tentativo di realizzare il nostro sogno di una vita sicura non ci avvicina affatto a tale meta; anziché mitigarsi, la nostra insicurezza aumenta di giorno in giorno, e così continuiamo a sognare, a tentare e a fallire. Ma se riuscissimo a realizzare una collettività amica, la comunità richiederebbe una lealtà incondizionata e noi perderemmo libertà e autonomia. E' il dilemma affrontato da questo saggio.
