Given the millions of dental implants and dental surgery involving bone performed, plus the frequent use of analgesic drugs for postoperative analgesia, and available from pharmacist without prescription. In addition to the large amount of prescribed NSAIDs for patients making their regularor incidental users of these drugs for treatment of different types of pain and inflammatory conditions. It is not credible that the effect of analgesic drugs on bone density and healing could be missed.. The effects of chronic use of diclofenac sodium, meloxicam and tramadol hydrochloride on serum biochemical bone markers (Prostaglandin E2, Bone Alkaline Phosphatase, Osteocalcin, Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2, 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and calcium) are evaluated. Their effects on bone density and healing of dental implant are discussed and all results are correlated and compared. It was concluded that chronic treatment with diclofenac sodium can reduce BMD and delayed healing of dental implants, while chronic treatment with meloxicam and tramadol hydrochloride increase BMD and healing of dental implants.
