Description
The Food Crisis. 'the present prie es of food products are receiving atten tion and causing concern, A boycott on meat - pork and beef - has become quite popular, and there is a state of discon tent and unrest relative to the cost of living. We have come to a food cri sis. The prices of actual necessities of life are unusual.
Many are wondering if these prices are to continue, orare to go higher.
The 'most sensible discussion of the situation that we have seen is by the Hon. James Wilson, Secretary of Agri ture, who declares that it costs more to get the necessities of life in the Uni ted States than in any other country in the world. His position is well set forth in the declaration that the American people are 'sufiering not so much from the high cost of living as from the cost of high living. It has been said that the American is the best fed, best cloth ed, best educated and best housed man upon earth. We shall have to add now thut he is the most expensively fed. The trouble, Secretary Wilson claims.
